Rosemary is a fragrant, evergreen shrub with needle-like leaves. It is a drought-tolerant and hardy plant with blue, purple, pink, or white flowers. Size and shape of the plant vary, from tall hedges to prostrate groundcovers. Popular varieties in California include Blue Spires, Tuscan Blue, Arp, and Prostratus. Rosemary can also be grown in containers, with Herb Cottage being a preferred variety for small spaces.
Cultural practices such as proper site selection, soil preparation, planting, and watering are important for plant health, pest management, and pest reduction when growing rosemary.
