Research Tools: California Pesticide Use Summaries

UC IPM developed this database from data from the California Department of Pesticide Regulation. The database includes summaries of pesticides used on California crops datailed by commodity, pesticide, county, and month. The database has no information about a pesticide or its label.

Sites and Site Categories Included in the Database

CONTENTS:

Sites

The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) provided the original list of sites. The UC Statewide IPM Program combined and categorized site names, generally by method of production, in the summary database. Some sites were renamed. Decision criteria influencing the new classifications included:

1. Production methods usually determined which sites would be included in a category. Example: Melons share the same category as vegetables.
2. Agronomic crops include forage, fodder, and oil crops, as well as all types of beans, corn, and peas (dried, field, fresh, succulent, etc.).
3. The term "All or Unspec" was changed to "Unspecified" and similar sites with the designation "Unspecified" were grouped together. Example: The new site name "Beans, Unspecified" includes "Beans (All or Unspec) (Seed & Pod Vegetables)" and "Beans (All or Unspec)."
4. Ambiguous language was clarified. Example: "Raisin (Dried Grape)" was changed to "Grapes, Raisin."
5. Apparent redundancies in site name in conjunction with few applications or pounds applied were criteria for grouping crops. Example: "Fig" with 628 applications and "Fig Common" with one application were grouped together as "Fig."
