DESCRIPTION:
Foxtail barley, a widely distributed native perennial grass, grows 1 to 2 feet (30 - 60 cm) tall. The collar region has membranous ligules and, unlike hare barley, no auricles. Leaf blades 1 to 6 inches (2.5 - 15 cm) long. Mature plants have a characteristic nodding, bristly open spike. Awns are very long, from 1 to 3 inches (2.5 - 7.5 cm). May be found infesting cultivated crops, ditchbanks, roadsides, and saline and alkaline areas.
