Harvesting and storage
Pick fruit when its firm and when it has reached full maturity and color. Cherries will not ripen
off the tree. Sour cherries are ready for harvest when they come off the tree easily without the
stems. Taste sweet cherries to be sure they are ready for harvest. Harvest as quickly as possible
in the event of rain to reduce the amount of fruit splitting.
Harvest cherries with the stem attached for better storage. However, if you are harvesting for
cooking or canning, then just pull the berries and leave the stem behind on the tree. Cherries can
at cool temperatures for 10 days.
