How to Manage Pests

Pests in Gardens and Landscapes

Ascochyta blight—Ascochyta lathyri

Ascochyta blight is a problem on sweet pea. It causes lower leaves and stems to rot. Petals have blackish rot and may extend into the flower stalk. Foliage may distort or die.

Solutions

The fungus that causes Ascochyta blight persists in plant debris and is favored by overhead irrigation and rain. Use pathogen-free plants. Avoid wetting foliage. Keep flowers dry and humidity low.
