Photo of the book, Integrated Pest Management for Rice.

The second edition of Integrated Pest Management for Rice details current research-based information from University of California researchers, Cooperative Extension specialists, farm advisors, and experiment station scientists. The excellent color photographs of pests and their damage and the informative line drawings, tables, and figures are valuable aids in the diagnosis and treatment of common rice pests.

New Management Techniques

Following the original easy-to-read format of the first edition, the second edition of Integrated Pest Management for Rice, was extensively revised by the Statewide Integrated Pest Management Project to incorporate information on new management techniques, changing legislation, and new treatment materials.

Revised Edition

Major changes to individual chapters include:

  • Integrated Pest Management for Rice—extensively rewritten to reflect current trends in rice production
  • The Rice Plant: Development and Growth Requirements—revised to include more detailed material and several new sections on growth requirements
  • Managing Pests in Rice—major revision of the sections on water management and postharvest straw management, with a new section on precision leveling
  • Weeds—completely revised management section reflects current materials and new management techniques
  • Invertebrates—updated information on control of the major invertebrate pests along with new photos of the large scavenger beetle
  • Diseases—new section on kernel smut, plus major revisions of seed rot and seedling diseases and stem rot
  • Abiotic Disorders--revision of the sections on nutrient deficiencies and toxicities, as well as the other disorders
  • Vertebrates—updates on management methods
