Congratulations to the California Pesticide Impact Assessment Program (CAPIAP), on the inauguration of its WWW site (http://www.capiap.ucdavis.edu). California PestCast is a new project of the University of California Statewide IPM Project and the Department of Pesticide Regulation. Its goal is to expand the use of computer-based crop disease forecasting in California through

  • development of a public-private weather network in support of adaptive research and validation of disease models, and
  • promotion of crop disease model research, validation, and outreach to encourage adoption of this new technology.

The Phenology Model database has been added to our home page. You will find information about the phenologies of more than 100 organisms, mostly focusing on those that are important in California agriculture. Each model contains: degree-day accumulations required for specific developmental stages of an organism, method of calculation, reference source, location of the study, developmental thresholds, and cutoff method. Many of the models include photos.

The Web pages and the printed version, known as the Pest Notes publication series, provide management information about common pest problems in the home, garden, and landscape.
